90 Years Young

Maggie O'Neill, Coulagh, Urhan, who celebrated her 90th Birthday, Nov.19th 2000

Mrs. Maggie O’Neill of Coulaghard, Eyeries, Beara celebrated her 90th Birthday last weekend.  On Friday 17th a special Mass was celebrated by Fr. Brick at Eyeries Parish Church.  Afterwards a family party was held at the Berehaven Golf Club, where the ‘Brithday Girl’ enjoyed a dance to music by Pat Holland.  The dancing was followed by a sing song and Maggie had no problem doing her part when she was called.

Maggie was joined by her seven sons, John, Paddy, Nealie, Michael, Bernice, Jim and Vince, and her daughter Mary (her youngest daughter Margaret died two years ago R.I.P.).  All her family were present to celebrate the party – Michael & his family travelled from London while John, Paddy & Margaret’s husband Mike and families travelled from Dublin.  She has 27 grand-children and 20 great grand-children.

From a total outsider's point of view, I sincerely hope that I have the hearing displayed by this lovely lady.  She merrily held a telephone conversation with someone, a mobile telephone, I hasten to add, quite happily ignoring the noise around her and easily able to hear the other party and not screaming down the phone to be heard.  I certainly could not do same and am over half her age younger.  God Bless Her and I hope I will be around to herald her 100th Birthday which she will certainly see.
