'DUNBOY CASTLE'
PUXLEY'S MANSION AKA 'DUNBOY CASTLE A Group of well known local businessmen have come together with Mr. Colm Power, the owner of the property to acquire, refurbish and develop Dunboy Castle. The property consists of the large Mansion of the Puxley mining company, the ruins of O'Sullivan Bere as well as approximately 39 acres of surrounding land. The new owners intend developing the property to maximise the enormous tourism potential of this unique and idyllic site. They intend to undertake these developments in a tasteful and careful manner, mindful of the unique history of the property and surrounding area. Phase 1 is to develop a 4/5 star Hotel, consisting of 100 beds, Leisure Centre, Conference & Function Room which will cater for all weddings, functions etc.. Phase 2 will see a Marina developed at the mouth of Castletownbere to cater for the ever increasing number of Yachting enthusiasts using Bantry Bay. In conjunction with the above, the developers intend constructing a Holiday Village to compliment the Castle. These developers have a proven track record in the Tourism Sector, having recently acquired and sympathetically renovated the Old Convent building in Castletownbere to a modern holiday hostel and gym. This group includes the following: Mr. Colm Power, the Vendor of the property, who will remain involved with and retain an interest in the new development. Mr. Michael Harrington, a native of Bawrs, Eyeries, Beara, Co. Cork and owner/Managing Director of Ml. Harrington Plant Hire Ltd., one of the largest and best known Plant Hire operations in Cork. Mr. Ned Murphy, a native of Bere Island, Co. Cork and a Chartered Accountant with HLB Nathans, Chartered Accountants, Cork, who have a strong presence in Castletownbere. Mr. Donal Kelly, a native of Garnish, living in Castletownbere, who is shareholder and Managing Director of Fast Fish Ltd., a large company involved in various aspects in the Fishing Industry in Castletownbere. Mr. Carl Dillon, a Chartered Accountant and partner with HLB Nathans, who specialises in the development of tax based tourism related projects. According to Mr. Kelly, 'the project is to be a flagship for tourism in the Beara Peninsula and will be a development in which the local community can take great pride in'.
