John & Kathleen Twomey and Family re-opened their completely refurbished Twomey's Ivy Bar on Thursday 1st June to lots and lots of good wishes from their family, neighbours, friends and the general public.

The Twomey Family Reopen The Ivy Bar

When the premises next door to them came on the market recently, they quickly seized the opportunity to develop futher their already vibrant trade.  After the demolishing and rebuilding of this site was completed, they closed business completely to integrate the two building and gut the existing bar to almost three times its existing floor space.  What they now have is a fantastic spacious, bright, newly constructed bar with ample seating for the 'punters', air-conditioning to remove smoke, floor space for dancing, wheelchair access and wheelchair toilet (the only one in the town) and decorated beautifully with furniture and fittings.

They propose to hold music every week-end.  On Friday night it will be of a Traditional nature and they wish to encourage set dancing by the many people throughout Beara who have learned the different set over the last few years.  On Saturday (every week) and Sunday (during the Summer Period only) there will be a mixture of music from Traditional Sessions to Popular to Country and Western.  They can now also cater for parties and small functions with food provided if necessary.

Pat Holland provided the music on the night of the opening and a good night was had by all.  We wish John & Kathleen together with their family, Conor, Sean and Kate every good wish for the future.
