O'Shea's Team - at half time

The Snow covered Caha Mountains after last night's fall.

Above are some photos (apologies for the bad quality) of the action of this afternoon's charity match - O'Shea's Bar, Castletownbere vs Causkey's Bar Eyeries.  A huge crowd braved the elements of a cold biting north easterly wind to line the pitch and cheer the brave lads on the field.
Soccer was played for the first half and for this spectator, the man of the match was definitely Donie Phil O'Sullivan from Urhan.   Peadar Lowney, Castletownbere gave a fantastic commentary of the 'play' from the sideline and there was many a side splitting moment.  The video if when edited will be a must to have.  Urhan were the victors of the first half, with three goals up.
The second half was a first for Beara - Rugby was played (or the players definition of rugby anyway).  If the first half was thrilling then the second half was absolutely unbelievable.  The players were well thawed out after this half with a very fast pace of game played.  When a player got the ball, it was a matter of how far they could get without being floored.  I daresay, that any cobwebs lingering from the Christmas Dinner etc. etc the day before, was well dispersed with on the field - in more ways than one.  O'Shea's Bar Castletownbere applied themselves better to Rugby and at the final whistle the sides were all level.

However, the victors of the day were the Castletownbere Lifeboat, with bulging containers following the collection from the spectators.  It was painless extraction of finance as everyone there thoroughly enjoyed the 'entertainment'  they viewed on the field and gladly coughed up to support this worthy cause.

Well done to the brave lads who gave at least 30 minutes of a very entertaining match.  Lets hope it will be an annual event.
