PLEASURE CRUISER AND FRENCH YACHT  AND BRINGS TO SAFETY

Tow Line being given to the stricken vessel by Lifeboat on Wednesday

A 26-foot cruiser "Cloudy Day Too" ran into difficulties while on passage from Kenmare to Crookhaven on Wednesday last, 25th July. The boat, with two people on board, developed engine trouble while going through the Dursey Sound and was stranded under the cable car. The Coastguard alerted Castletownbere's all weather lifeboat, the 52' Roy & Barabara Harding, which was tasked and launched at 1.25 p.m. under the command of Emergency Coxswain Michael Martin-Sullivan, and crew B. Gonnolly, P. O'Conor, J. Cross, M.O' Donoghue and P.Stevens. In addition, the R.N.L.I.'s Divisional technician, P. Curtis was on board throughout the call-out. Operating in good weather conditions, the lifeboat located the stricken vessel in the Dursey Sound at 2.15 and took it under tow. The lifeboat and the rescued boat arrived at the pier in Castletownbere at 4.40 p.m. One of the two persons on board, Mr Brennan, the owner of the Park Hotel in Kenmare, expressed his gratitude to the lifeboat crew for the professional manner in which they conducted the rescue.

On Thursday afternoon, an eighteen metre French registered yacht 'Mogotois' ran into difficulties west of Ardnakinna Lighthouse at the  western end of Bere Island.  The lifeboat, under Coxswain Brian O'Driscoll, launched at 1.45 pm and escorted the yacht to a safe berth in the harbour.
