Christmas Fair 2001

Another successful Christmas Fair was held at the Beara Community School organised by Castletownbere Business Development Association and the Transition Year Students.  This event is growing in size and popularity each year and this year was no exception.

The day opened with a Choral Recital under the guidance of Irene Geraghty.  From 12 noon to 3.pm the going was hectic with goods and crafts being sold at a fantastic rate.  Face Painting was supplied by Olga which kept the young ones entertained no end.  The proceeds of the day went towards the Castletownbere Playground Development, which has received grant-aid of £30,000 from Cork County Council, but must be matched by local funds also. This is a huge undertaking for such a small community but the benefits to the whole area will be immense when finished.  The Council will take over the upkeep and insurance of the Playground when it is completed.

Those who participated in the Fair included Irises Seaweed & Beauty Products, Richard Harvey Pottery, Julie Aldridge Jewellery & Knic Knacs, Mandy of Driftwood Gallery with Cards and Paintings, Glass Painting by Cool Ogres Crafts, Sparrow's Plants, Cross's Chemist, Kitty Murphy, Fancy Goods and Bric-a-Brac, Roger & Gillian Crafts, Pat O'Driscoll with her Xmas Decorations, John Eagle Photography, Books & Postcards, Patricia O'Sullivan, Tupperware, Alan Hughes, Aromatherapy, Beara Cycles, Co-Action plus a whole range of raffles, lucky dips, competitions and items made by the Students themselves. (My apologies if I left anyone out)

Great credit is due to everyone concerned for organising such a marvellous event.
