PUPILS FROM BEARA COMMUNITY SCHOOL HOLD THEIR DEBS

November the 1st 2001 was a very busy day in Castletownbere.  The traditional 'Fair Day' (no longer for the selling of cattle and sheep) was held in the Square, with market stalls selling their wares - from Olives to Footwear to Shrubs to Tools of all descriptions.  This brought the usual amount of people to the town in the morning

However, in the afternoon, there was a different influx of people to the town - yes it was the annual Debs Ball - for the pupils of Beara Community School.  All the pupils of Leaving Certificate classes and also those who enrolled with them 5/6 years ago began gathering with their partners to attend this year's celebration - being held at the Parkway Hotel in Dunmanway.  Parents, families and dwellers of the town came out to view the astonishing beauty and style of them all - male and female - in their flowing dresses and dress suits.  Thankfully, the weather was very kind to them - being mild (for all the bare shoulders) and also dry with the odd ray of sunshine.  Three buses lined up along the Square to ferry them off to enjoy their night out.  Music for the night - DJ 'Cro' - himself a former student of the school of 3 years ago.

Thank-you to Emma and Patrick Harrington for assisting me in getting all (hopefully) of the debutantes to the Sacred Heart Church for the photo above and to Billy Black for arranging them there.  The following are some more photos captured during my walkabout in the Square. Some I know the names of - others I do not - forgive me those of you who I do not know your names please.
