Flooding in Castletownbere

Last week the Beara coast was lashed by South Easterly Gales which tied up all of the Castletownbere Fishing Fleet.  These gales, combined with high tides and torrential rain caused some flooding in Castletownbere when the tide backed up the drains.  The most severely affected was the East End Square, with the tide coming right up over the edge.  Some flooding was caused to the Mediterranean House but was narrowly averted in Murphy's SuperValu.  Also in the Main Square, the water started to fill up outside O'Donoghues Bar, but thankfully, the tide turned in the nick of time - before any damage was done.  At the Ford Rí Hotel on the water's edge, the water covered over half of the front lawn.  Following these high tides, a lot of debris and household rubbish has now been washed ashore, causing an eyesore.  Why or why do people dump their rubbish indiscriminately?

The Winter is finally upon us - let's hope we have seen the worst of it.
