Foróige'sHalloween Haunted House
Last Wednesday night, October 31st. the upstairs of the Beara Sports Hall was transformed into a Haunted House for Halloween. The Foróige Creative Art group had been preparing for weeks for this big event. Fifteen local young people with the help of Deirdre Keohane, Castletownbere Art School and Gwen O’Donovan, Foróige Youth Officer came together to put their artistic skills to work. The Haunted House was open from 7pm. – 9pm. It was visited by hundreds of children and adults. The Foróige Coin Challenge was the Charity – the beneficiaries being the ISPCC, The Alzheimer Society, The Marie Keating Foundation and The Bubblegum Club. A total of £342.95 was collected.
Each young person in the Group chose a particular role for the two hours. There was tour guides, money collectors, witches, ghosts, a dead body, a fortune teller, a security guard, etc. As the visitors were escorted through the Haunted House they met a body in a coffin, a head on a plate, witches boiling up trouble, a fortune teller, a dead body, an undertaker and spiders! Those involved in the group were: Siobhan Murphy, Murphy, Rachel Martin Sullivan, Laura Harrington, Gráinne Leahy, Louise Murphy, Sandra O’Neill, Sinead Dwyer, Keith Hegarty, Katriona Sullivan, Stephanie Power Conor Jack Patrick Harrington, Jacqueline Healy, Jennifer Power, Mary Crowley, Ise and Andrea Lotty. .
For the first Haunted House in Castletownbere, it was a great success and thanks to all for attending and supporting the Foróige Coin Challenge. A special thanks also to the committee of the Sports Hall for giving us the use of the Hall. Thanks to the Beara Community School for the use of the Art Room every week. Thanks to the volunteers for helping out, Will, Yolanda and Lorkan. Also thanks to Billy Black for taking the photos during the Haunted House and finally thanks to Billy Flaherty for providing the music.
The Beara Youth Development Project is hoping that this will be the first of many community events to be hosted by the young people of Beara. If you would like any information or if you would like to get involved in the Beara Youth Development Project you can contact Gwen O’Donovan 71885.
