Karate Tournament

A Karate Tournament will take place on the 16^th of July here in Castletownbere at the Beara Sport and Recreation Hall, starting at 10.00 a.m.  This is the second annual tournament of it type in Beara and is hosted by the local club f.s.k.d. This year we will have with us over 100 competitors from Cork, Castletownbere and as far away as Galway. The Club this year is using the tournament to train for the World Championships that they did so well in last year. Also the local European Champion, Fiona McCarthy, of Kilcatherine, Eyeries, will be taking part in the tournament as will the squad (Mary O'Sullivan, Lavinia Harrington, Damien Healy, Danilo Duwsoswaw and Niall Wright) who were in the World Tournament  last year. They are all ranked in the top 15 in the World, top 10 in Europe and Munster, so we will be expecting great things from them this year. The local f.s.k.d. Karate Club is the only one of 6 clubs in the Country which teaches internal and external Martial Arts.  We hope to take a lot of the medals away with us and keep them in the Beara area. Last year was very good for us as we came away with over 50% of the spoils. Spectators are welcome to attend and cheer on the local karateica.
