More Drowning Tradegies:

Again the Beara Peninsula was thrown into shock on Monday 12th June following the tragic drowning accident of Johnny O'Sullivan (Brien).   The Castletownbere Lifeboat was put to sea following the alert but was called back as the body was retrieved from the sea at Lehanebeg.  The ambulance took the remains to the Castletownbere District Hospital which was later transferred to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem was carried out.

To his wife Margaret, his six children, his relatives and friends, we extend out sympathy.

Off the Galway Coast, on Sunday Night last, 18th June, a crew member of the Eiranova Fisheries, Castletownbere trawler was swept overboard.  The trawler,MFV 'Castletown' carried out an extensive search assisted by the Marine Emergency Services but were unable to retrieve the body.  The man was one of the Spanish Nationals who crew the vessel.

This brings to four drowning  tragedies in the last 5 weeks and the whole community hope that the remainder of the year 2000 and beyond will be free of such accidents.
