SEA-ANGLING & COASTAL BOAT TRIPS

MV 'Sea Tracker leaving Castletownbere Harbour for a Chartered Angling Trip

The arrival of the M.V. 'Sea Tracker' to Castletownbere last week saw the beginning of the development of Sea-Angling in the Peninsula.  Up to now, this activity was non-existent to the Public and the Tourist/Visitor in particular.  The 45' Boat, skippered by Kevin Lawlor and Robert Walsh is fully Licensed and Insured, can carry up to 12 people and can bring you on a full or part day's sea-angling.  However if you only wish to view the stunning beauty of Beara from the Sea, Coastal Trips can also be arranged.  This is the first of 3 possibly 4 vessels, which will be in operation this year.  The Chairman of the Beara Sea Angling & Marine Leisure Club, Donal Healy, is waiting the granting of his license from the Dept. of the Marine later on this month for his vessel, 'Mary John'.  A Sports Angling Vessel, is currently on its way from the U.S.A. which when passed by the Dept. of the Marine, will be powerful enough to bring the avid angler deep-sea to the fishing ground where Tuna, Swordfish and Shark can be caught. Another local is in negotiation to obtain a vessel, which will also be added to the fleet. When fully operational, the Sea-Angling Club will be able to offer everyone a choice of what they want.

Bookings can be made at the Beara Action Group Office at the Square or by telephoning them at (027) 71062/70880.  The Sea-Angling Web Pages can be accessed from the Web Site www.bearainfo.com    Flyers and/or business cards can also be obtained there to forward them to interested parties.

We wish this venture every success. This new industry will benefit the whole peninsula in that it will bring more tourists to the area, which in turn will have a spin off in accommodation, pubs, restaurants etc.etc...
