SPONSORED CYCLE IN AID OF CANCER TREATMENT

Some of the cyclists who took part in the Cycle on their arrival in Castletownbere.
The annual Sponsored Cycle in aid of A.C.T., Cork University Hospital, was started eight years ago by the late Martin O'Driscoll, Cork and West End, Castletownbere. Martin, who battled with Cancer himself over many years felt he wanted to do something to create awareness and fund raise for the cause at the same time. He himself, despite his illness, completed the cycle from Cork to Castletownbere in the early years. The support he got was tremendous and to honour him, fellow colleagues and friends have continued this fund-raiser since. Up to last year, the amount raised is in the region of £45,000. The cyclists are accompanied by a coach of supporters who give them refreshments along the way and who stop at various venues to collect money. Martin's wife Nuala is very active in organizing the event and she travelled with the supporters last Saturday. They deserve a lot of credit and thanks for their activities. Anyone who wishes to contribute can do so by lodging to the main A.C.T. Account - Bank Of Ireland - Current Account No. 59989079 Sort Code: 90-27-76
