A record crowd, both swimmers and spectators,
turned up at Tralahan today for the Annual Sponsored Christmas Day Swim, in
aid of the RNLI and Co-Action Beara. The day was dry but a cool easterly
breeze kept temperatures low. The swimmers commentated that the water was
ok but when they came out the cold really hit them. Both old and young
swam in what is turning out to be one of the Events of the Year not to be
missed. Denis Regan, Deputy Chairman of the Tralahan Committee blew his
whistle to start off the swimmers who were starting to getting cold waiting
around.
Following the dip, the swimmers were treated to hot punch to heat them up and
the spectators were also treated to the same. A raffle was held and when the
figures will be totted up, the two receiving charities will be very much the
better off for these brave sporting people. Well done to everyone
concerned.
