Last week-end,
the Annual Mussel Fair in Bantry was up and running again - having been halted
last year due to the Foot and Mouth outbreak. As has been tradition since the Mussel Fair began
12 years ago, the Artane Boys Band played there again - 5 sessions over
the week-end. They were a joy to listen to.
This year however, there was a member of the band - with
a Beara connection. He is David Holland, son of Frank (now
living in Dublin)and Eugenia Holland and grandson of Sheila Holland, Castletownbere -
pictured left. David, 14 years of age, plays the Clarinet, and has
been in the band for the last 2 years.
One of the highlights of the year for the Band - is to
play in Croke Park on the All Ireland Football and Hurling Finals.
They were however enjoying their stay in Bantry also, with members of the
community who gave them accommodation for the week-end. |
