Bird's Nest on Trawler

Birds Nest 2.jpg (37392 bytes) This is the time of year when birds begin to mate and to build their nests. Grey rooks normally build their nests high up on trees and people don’t take a lot of notice of them, but this year there’s a lot of interest in one particular grey rook’s nest, which is on Dinish Island, Castletownbere. This is because this bird has built its nest high up in the mast of fishing vessel 'Careen', which is one of several local fishing boats tied up at the pier near the syncro lift

It’s amazing how the bird picked this vessel to build its nest. In the old days of sailing ships a lookout platform was placed high on the ships masts, so it appears that this grey rook has a similar lookout and is able to watch the the goings on around.
