Debs 2002

On Thursday October 31st, the Square in Castletownbere was awash with beautiful young ladies in their gorgeous dresses and fine young men, dressed in their black ties and suits.  It was Debs time once again and 3 buses lined up to take 160 of them to The Killarney Heights Hotel to celebrate their final year in Secondary School - Beara Community School.  They certainly drew a crowd to the town in what would otherwise be an non-eventful 'half-day' (by some shops still - even in 2002).  Proud parents stood by to watch the compliments being showered on their off-spring.  I guess it will be their wedding day before they get all dressed up again.  Because of the bad events that happened at the previous year's Debs plus the bad publicity following the Bantry Debs in Castletownbere the previous week, there was also aprenhsion in the air - everyone hoping that they have a good night, but also to behave themselves and not let their families, school and peninsula down.

Well, there has been nothing but glowing praise of this year's group - not one ounce of misbehaviour - well done everyone!!! Lets hope that the future years groups will take a leaf out of your book.

The photo above is of 98% of the group - the remainder were either camera shy or just plain stubborn to join the rest of them.

Some photos that I took in the Square - more in due course when John Murphy gets his supply back to pass on!
