John 'Lock' O'Sullivan, Adrigole, R.I.P.

John in Action.jpg (60634 bytes) The tragic, untimely death of John 'Lock' O'Sullivan occurred on Tue. evening in the swimming pool in Coláiste na Piarsaigh, Glanmire, Cork, where he taught English and P.E.  The close knit community of Adrigole was put in utter shock as the news filtered throughout and indeed the whole of the Beara Peninsula.  John, aged 26, was the only son of Michael and Mary O'Sullivan, Lauckavane, Adrigole and sister to Marie to whom we extend our deepest sympathy.   John was an talented and active member of the GAA Club in Adrigole and would have been one of their key players for the County Final which was due to be played on Sunday next, but has now been cancelled.  He also played for Beara GAA and was one of the team that won the U.21 Final in 1997.  John was also among the International Australian Rules Football Team that won in Australia earlier this year.
As news spread throughout the peninsula, many phonecalls offering sympathy to the O'Sullivan family, Adrigole GAA and the community in general were made to John Greene, County Sound, who in turn read them out.  Some of the events that were cancelled are
1. Public Meeting organised by Beara Action Group, to discuss the non-recruitment of 2nd G.P. for Beara since April 2001, scheduled for Thur. 21st Nov. at Cametringane Hotel.  2. Race Night, Castletownbere GAA.  3. 31 Card Drive, Cahermore on Friday 22nd Sept.

A Rosary will be held at Coakley's Funeral Home, Bantry this evening at 8.30 pm.  Removal tomorrow (Thur.) from Bantry at 8.00 pm to Adrigole Church and Funeral on Friday at 12 noon and burial immediately afterward locally.
