As part of the Aidan Con O’Sullivan Trust Fund Activities, an event was held recently in the Westlodge Hotel, Bantry, to select two girls to represent West Cork and the Aidan Con O’Sullivan Trust Fund in the upcoming heat for the Cork Rose of Tralee Selection.  Business all over West Cork put forward a representative and Beara had seven young ladies out of a total of 17 involved in the event.  On the night, Paudie Palmer put the girls through their paces on stage before the Judges, representing each of the Main Sponsors – McGurn Construction Ltd. and Super Valu West Cork, plus a representative from the Cork Rose of Tralee Committee, the Kerry Festival Committee and 103 FM County Sound picked the two winners.  They were Julie O’Sullivan, Eyeries, who was sponsored by Manning Cleaning Services as the Aidan Con O’Sullivan Trust Fund Representative and Laura O’Sullivan, Bantry, sponsored by the Bantry Bay Hotel, as the West Cork Representative.  Each contestant received a Cork Crystal memento, sponsored by Murphy’s SuperValu, Castletown Bere, by the The current Rose of Tralee, Lisa Manning from Australia, also attended on the night.  The winners received cheques for €200, a Ryanhart Sculpture, sponsored by Jimmy Barry Motors, Bantry and a bouquet of flowers from Paradise Flowers, Bantry.  For the final in Cork, each contestant will be kitted out for the occasion by Havanna Boutique Cork plus have all their hair and make-up needs taken care of.

The event was hugely supported both on the night and by generous sponsorship by businesses all over West Cork to whom the committee are immensely grateful.  A list of all sponsors plus those who gave raffle prizes were displayed on the night and are also on the Trust Fund Website – www.bearainfo.com/aidancontrust

Last Friday night, the committee, comprised of: Chairman, Colman Frank O’Sullivan, Eyeries, Secretary, Carol Manning, Bantry, Treasurers, Seamus Harrington, Castletownbere and Patrick G. Murphy, Urhan, and members Paudie B. O’Sullivan, Cahermore, Dawn Minihane, C.T.Bere and Mary Martin-Sullivan, presented a cheque for €16,100.00 to the Trust Fund Committee at the Hole in the Wall.  Tony Carey, Adrigole, Chairman of the Trust Fund, thanked the committee for their hard work, which he said was evident on the night as the event was a huge success.  He thanked everyone who contributed in any way to this and indeed to all the events that are currently being held and those held over the last few months.  He went on to say that the Trust Fund is going well and the good-will shown is due to the fact that Aidan has such a huge circle of friends, who wish him all the best for his future.
