Castletownbere were crowned Beara Junior2 Football Champions yesterday
afternoon after they overcame Glengarriff by a single point in an exciting
contest in Cahermore. In a very evenly contested match in which the sides were
level on no fewer than five occasions. Castletownbere’s ability to take scores
when presented proved the difference between the sides. At the interval it was
Castletownbere 0-5, Glengarriff 0-4.
Cormac
O’Sullivan opened up a two point gap early in the second half but points from
frees had the sides level entering the last quarter. Two points from Michael
Murphy, one from a free and the other from play put the Town lads in the driving
seat. Peter Murphy pegged back a point from a free but despite several
opportunities Glengarriff failed to secure the necessary point to force the game
to extra time. After the game Michael Joe O’Sullivan, Chairman of the Beara
Board presented the Donal Jim O’Sullivan Cup to the Castletownbere captain
Lorcan Harrington. The competition was kindly sponsored by AIB Castletownbere.
