The Beara Rose Selection will be taking place over the St. Patrick's
Week-end. Murphy's SuperValu and the Beara Bay Hotel have kindly
sponsored the event this year plus there are many other affiliate
sponsors also. Colman Frank O’Sullivan, Chairman of the
committee, has secured this event through his participation as an escort
in the Rose of Tralee Festival over the last few years.
It is indeed a great honour to Beara that we have been given the
chance to run this event. All
the pubs and hotels in Beara were invited to support this event by
sponsoring a girl for the contest with the winner to go forward to the
Cork Heat for the Rose of Tralee.
The week-end kicks off on Friday night at the Forge Niteclub, where the
girls will learn the sequence for their interview on stage with
Paudie Palmer on the Sunday night. Music on the night will be with
the very popular Murphy’s Men followed by a Disco.
On Saturday, the girls will mingle throughout the peninsula and on Sat.
night in Castletownbere - calling on all the establishments that
sponsored them.
On Sunday afternoon, they will participate in the St. Patrick's Day
Parade, before the climax of the weekend - the Final Selection, which
will be held in the Beara Bay - Beacon's Niteclub later that night.
As stated, Paudie Palmer will interview each girl on stage to get to
know her talents, personality etc., whilst also putting her at ease.
Following the selection, music and entertainment will be supplied by Big
Johnny C and the Playboys and the night will be rounded off with a
Celebration Disco with DJ 'Cro' - an overflowing night of entertainment.
The winner will receive a cheque for 300 Euro, a 300 Euro Voucher from
Havanna's Boutique, Cork, which will go towards their dress for the Cork
Final, a piece of Ryanhart - sponsored by Jimmy Barry Motors, Bantry and
her Entry Fee to the Cork Selection. Each girl will receive a Cork
Crystal Memento - sponsored by McGurn Construction, Castletownbere.
All the proceeds will go towards the very worthy Castletownbere Day Care
Centre, who have plans to extend their already very successful facility
for the elderly in our community. Tickets are on sale throughout
Beara and we hope that the people turn out to support the girls
themselves and also the Castletownbere Day Care Centre.
"Who knows, perhaps the 2003 Rose of Tralee will be from
Beara".
