Brown Derby
The Beara population in Cork is ever increasing and now they have a 'local' away from home to frequent following the purchase by 4 Beara men of the well renowned pub 13 Barrack St, - The Brown Derby. Colman O'Sullivan from Eyeries, Cormac O'Neill from Allihies, Patrick G. Murphy from Urhan and Aidan McGurn from Castletownbere have all come together to acquire this premises last month, which is fast becoming the focal point for all Beara people in Cork as well as being one of Cork's most popular sporting establishments. Personnel - supporters and players - from all sporting organisations - football, rugby, soccer etc., frequent this bar and it is Roy Keane's father, Mossie Keane's 'local'. Colman and Cormac are managing the Pub jointly with Beara people working also behind the bar. Connor Eddie O'Sullivan, Castletownbere and his brother Kevin are employed there as is Laura Lowney, Ardgroom. Elaine O'Driscoll from Cork also works there - girlfriend of popular Castletownbere GAA man Morgan O'Sullivan. The bar is open for breakfast from 9.30 to 12.00 each day for a full Irish Breakfast and lunches are on the 'menu' for future development at a later stage. Bookings are being taken for parties, functions etc - Tel. (021) 4964928. No-one from Beara need ever be lonely for Beara company in the future - a 'Home away from Home'.
