John Murphy's 50th Birthday Celebration

Last week, John Murphy, of Murphy's Restaurant, Castletownbere celebrated the 29th Anniversary of his 21st Birhday (his 50th Birthday) and his many many friends and colleagues joined with his family in a massive celebration at the Cametringane Hotel on Saturday night.  The party was meant to be a surprise - but news filtered to him during the week and he knew that a few friends were going to join him for the celebration.  However, what he did not know is that his wife Joan had carefully acquired his address book and a lot of his friends from his past - when he worked in Cork and friends he had not met for some time - were contacted and made the journey to Castletownbere to be with him - a total surprise for John.  John is a very active member of community organisations and is not behind the door when it comes to rolling up his sleeves to lend a hand.  He is Chairman of Beara Tourism and Development Association, involved with Beara and Castletownbere GAA Clubs, Town Twinning Committee - to mention but a few.  He is also the Beara Correspondent for County Sound Radio and his help in compiling the weekly  announcements on this site is greatly appreciated - far and wide - therefore it was fitting to see such a huge turn-out to wish him many happy returns.  Colm Cronin kept everyone well entertained for the night and John was not shy to sing a song or two.   Happy Birthday John from BearaInfo and many many happy returns.  Here area a few photos of the night - click on image to view larger photo and use the back arrow on browser to return to this page.
