PRESENTATION OF CHEQUE TO DAYCARE CENTRE
On Sat. Jan 1st. Phil
Murphy and her team at the local Daycare Centre were presented with a cheque for
€ 2,600 . This money was raised from the sale of a recording called “Beara
Sings Christmas”. This recording was made locally at Beara Studios in
Kilcatherine. It was an album of Christmas Carols, Stories and music by Beara
adults, teenagers and children. Copies have been sent to all corners of the
globe and were much appreciated by Beara people everywhere. In accepting the cheque, Phil thanked all those who took part in the recording and especially Jouke de Ruiter who made it possible. She assured us that the money would be put to good use in the purchase of equipment for the Centre. At present the Centre can cater for 10 – 12 elderly people each day who come in their turn on a fortnightly basis. They are driven to the Centre, have their breakfast, lunch, entertainment, reflexology, bingo, arts and crafts and psychiatric service. The social aspect is perhaps the most important part of the day. They really need more space, but funds are just not available. She said that Beara people are the most generous in the world and have provided money for most of the equipment in the Centre. |
