U.S. NAVAL VESSEL 'USS THE SULLIVANS' ARRIVES IN BEREHAVEN HARBOUR

coat_of_arms.jpg (37664 bytes) Following years of preparation the US Naval Vessel 'THE SULLIVANS' arrived into Berehaven Harbour on Fri. morning at 10.00 am in glorious sunshine.  This vessel - the 2nd Destroyer vessel to be commissioned in honour of the 5 Sullivan brothers, whose parents hailed from Adrigole, were killed in 1941 from the same US Navy ship during World War 1.  This led the a new law being passed in the US that no more than 2 members of a family could sail on any such ship again.  The first ship was commissioned in 1945 following the war and this has since been decommissioned and is part of a Naval Museum now.  The current vessel was commissioned in 1997 and was christened by the Sullivan Brothers niece Kelly Sullivan Loughren - whose special prayer was 'May the Luck of the Irish' be with Her.I was honoured to be invited to go aboard the vessel and get a tour of one of the US's finest Naval Vessels.  Click Here to read Ship's History and current details.
