Cheque Presentation to CastletownBere Hospital |
|

|
On Thursday evening last, a cheque for
€13,110.00 was presented to the Matron of Castletownbere
Hospital. This is the story published in the Glengarriff
Notes of Southern Star - on Sept. 18th about how this money was
raised!
" Thirty-one adults and nine children set out on
foot, from Glengarriff to Castletownbere on Saturday 11th Sept. in
atrocious wather conditions to raise money for St. Joseph's
Hospital. The uphill climb from the village to Derrincorrin was
made all the more punishing by the driving rain, but the bedraggled
bunch made great time and arrived at the Glenbrook Bar at 1pm for a
welcome lunch and a change of clothes. The weather improved
slightly in the afternoon to heavy showers and gusty winds, but the
walkers ploughed on and were in remarkably high spirits, despite looking
like drowned rats! |
| They reached Castletownbere at 4.35pm and were
escorted through the town by an ambulance and some staff of St.
Joseph's. The youngest member to complete the entire twenty two
mile walk was David Murphy, Bocarna, aged thirteen. The
walk organiser, Siobhan O'Sullivan, expressed her thanks to all
the sponsors, the people who gave money en route, all the
helpers and especially the walkers themselves, who really earned
the money the hard way. Siobhan organised the walk in
appreciation of the marvellous care and attention afforded to
the patients by the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital."
Pictured above is Siobhan O'Sullivan donating
the cheque of €13,110.00 to the Matron
of St. Joeph's Hospital, Ber Power and below with a gathering of
family and staff of the hospital. A phenominal amount for
a small group to achieve, to a very worthy cause - well done to
all concerned! |
