History of Bere Island

A very successful launch of this new book - A Social & Economic History of Bere Island 1900-1920's by Siobhán Hawke, took place in the Hotel, Bere Island at 3.00pm on Easter Sunday.  Following a wine reception, Mrs Anne Power launched the book and gave a brief intorduction to the background history. As the name suggest, the book is an illustration in text and pictures of the social and economic history of Bere Island during 1900 - 1920 as these two decades saw immense changes in the island.  Mrs Siobhán Hawke, daughter of John Finbar and Gertie O'Sullivan, thanked everyone for attending and also the people, both past and present, who gave generously of their time in helping her to complete this labour of love.  The book is available from The Shell, Castletownbere, Beara, Co.
