A group of 12 children, their leader and helpers recently went on a visit to Castletownbere Lifeboat Station. The group known as the Kiddy Club is part of Friends Forever Childcare, Harbour Lodge, Castletownbere and this was their second annual visit to the station on Dinish Island .

The Lifeboat  Coxswain, mechanic,  and a large number of the RNLI crew greeted the Kiddy Club on their arrival and the group were first shown the crew’s pagers, all weather gear, and told of what happens when they get a call out.

Next they looked around the Station, at their call out location chart and enjoyed having turns using the walkie-talkies before watching a video on air sea rescues and being shown the crews boarding boat. The children were also told of the importance of safety on and near the water and what to do in an emergency.

Before leaving the children were given a small party by those present and presented with a cert. and RNLI goody bag to remember their day. The visit was thoroughly enjoyed by both adults and children alike who would like to say a big Thank You to all who made their day really special.
